During the Great Patriotic War, representatives of the air forces played a significant role in the defeat of the enemy on Earth and in the sky. From 1941 to 1945, over 74 200 pilots served in the ranks of the Air Force of the Red Army. More than 2300 of them were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. During the war years, 59 pilots were awarded this title twice, two - three times.
