Who does not know the expression "soldier"s truth"? The latter is often opposed to the "truth of the General": it is, they say, much more harsh and objective than the general, formed in a reliable dugout or office office. But the Great Patriotic War showed that such a contrast is very conditional. Household comfort lost its advantages over the need for military leaders to fulfill not only purely military, but also political functions, which in the conditions of Soviet reality was a factor in additional risk. So a rare soldier would agree to share the fate of someone from the heroes of the new book of a military historian Yu.V. Rubtsova. In a series of essays, it can be traced as the sharp conflicts of war and the post -war period were reflected on the fate of some generals and marshals, completely dependent on the will of the leader of the Soviet Union, whether Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev or Gorbachev
