1941. During fierce battles in the Smolensk direction, the crew of the T-34 tank of the younger lieutenant Alexei Sokolov is captured. The Germans drive away the frightened car to the repair plant, and the tankers themselves are determined in a special camp, where they have to wait for their fate. But the Nazis are in no hurry to execute them. Sokolov learns that the German command, for propaganda, is preparing to make a staged film about the tank duel of Russian and German crews, in which German aces will clearly win.
