The Russian part of this large historical region is now occupied by the Bryansk and partially - Smolensk and Kaluga regions, Ukrainian - Chernihiv and Sumy, Belorussian - Gomel and Mogilev regions. A peculiar axis of this region from Smolensk region to Chernihiv region is the Desna River with its tributaries, so it is called the Land. The chronological framework of the work is from antiquity, the moment of the origin of weapons and military conflicts, until the end of the 17th century, when the drawing actually ceased to be a restless military borderland.
