In October 1914, Admiral John Fisher, who returned to the post of First Sea Lord, began to promote his favorite idea - a project of a high -speed, powerfully armed and weakly armored ship. It would seem that the results of battles in the Helgoland Bay and especially among the Falkland Islands worked on this concept. As a result, Fisher managed to achieve urgent re -laying of the battleships "Rinaun" and "Ripals" as linear cruisers.
Unfortunately, built in just two years, the cruisers went into line shortly after the Yutland battle and were met by English sailors with extreme skepticism - powerfully armed, but poorly armored ships, which prevailed purely cruising qualities, it was worth it to stay away from serious enemy.
The last linear cruiser of the British Empire - "Hood" - on the contrary, was born slowly and in agony. In this project, the English shipbuilders tried to take into account all the shortcomings of the linear cruisers who were revealed during the Battle of the Battle. As a result, in September 1916, the Hud was launched only in August 1918, and two years later became part of the British fleet.
The book proposed talks about the design, construction and military service linear cruisers of the British Empire
