The automatic design of M. T. Kalashnikova occupies a special place in the history of small arms of the world. It has been in service with the army of Russia and many other countries of the world for more than 70 years. Despite such a solid service life, this machine is now complies with the main requirements of the army, and in terms of reliability remains unsurpassed so far. The Kalashnikova automatic is interesting to a huge audience of readers, many publications are devoted to him. At the same time, for seven decades of combat use of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, the truly exhaustive history of his creation has not yet been written, which does not correspond to the role of this weapon in the development of the domestic arms school. This book is designed to eliminate this omission. The book describes the events starting from the early stage of the work of M. T. Kalashnikov as a constructor-guard designer before it is included in the competition for the development of an assault rifle in 1946, launching the AK-47 assault rifle in serial production at Izhevsk Armory Plants in 1948-1948. and its adoption of the Council Army in 1949. These events were covered in taking into account the complex of tactical, technical, economic, military-political factors and other events that influenced the development of manual automatic weapons in the USSR in the early-ends of the 1940s. The book is full of images of prototypes of weapons and other documentary and illustrative material that reveals the essence and course of the events described. The book conducted a technical analysis of the experimental machines of M. T. Kalashnikov and automatic machines developed by other designers, the images of their appearance and internal device are given. Part of the weapons published in the Book of Samples is presented for the first time. The book was written on the basis of a unique collection of experienced Soviet automatic weapons stored in the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineering and Communications forces. The documentary basis of the book of the book is sources from the archival funds of the military-historical museum of artillery, engineering and communications troops, the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, other archives and museums of the Russian Federation, as well as from the archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. We recommend the book to all readers interested in the history of Soviet small arms
