Tver Prince Mikhail Yaroslavich (1271-1318) lived in the terrible times of the Horde rule. The first of the Russian princes, he defeated the Mongols in the Battle of 1317, for which he paid his life, taking a martyrdom in the Horde. And after several centuries, he was counted to the Holy of Saints and is now revered by Orthodox people as the heavenly intercessor of the city of Tver and the entire Russian land.
