The monograph illuminates the life and work of the wonderful artist of the middle of the 18th century. M.I. Makhaev (1717 - 1770) first showed himself as a master of drawing, the first Russian drawingman.
In the book, the well -known species of St. Petersburg and the "avenue" of Moscow, engraved according to the originals of Makhaev, as well as its preserved drawings are examined in detail. The graphic work of the artist is correlated with the samples of the city landscape of his European contemporaries.
On the basis of archival documents, the artist’s work method is analyzed, the features of his character were recreated.
Personality and versatile work of the master are shown against the background of Russian artistic life of the XVIII century.
