Academic periodical on the history of the Middle Ages and Early New Age in Western Europe, which is the body of the professional community of Russian medievists. It was founded in 1942 under the heading of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, goes out in the form of the annual (Publishing House Science) without interruption up to the present. Since 2007, it has been published quarterly.
is included in the list of reviewed publications recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission to protect the candidate and doctoral dissertation. Currently, the journal publishes original studies of domestic and foreign historians, devoted mainly to the Western European history of the Middle Ages and the early New Age, as well as articles related to neighboring regions or related disciplines.
A large place is given to the translations of sources, historiographic reviews, acquaintance with the life of the main scientific centers of domestic media. Materials are regularly placed to help teachers of higher and secondary schools, reviews of domestic and foreign publications, bibliography of works on the history of Western Europe in Russia in the middle of the IV - mid -17th centuries
