The author of the book is a researcher of the Talmudic literature, that is, the literature created by the Jewish wise men in the late antiquity in the territory of the country of Israel and the Sassanid Persia. The book is not strictly scientific, but belongs to the essistic genre, that is, something intermediate between the scientific article and the literary essay. Most of the book consists of a discussion of selected stories from the Talmudic literature, explained from the point of view of modern literary criticism and historical science
