Vladislav Mikhailovich Glinka (1903-1983) was a writer and historian who worked for many years at the State Hermitage Museum. He survived the Siege of Leningrad, working as a custodian at the Hermitage during this difficult time, as well as serving as a paramedic in a hospital and simultaneously being responsible for the preservation of the collections of the Institute of Russian Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR ("Pushkin House"). The manuscript "Memories of the Siege" was discovered by V.M. Glinka's heirs after the author's death when going through his archive. The narrative about the first winter of the siege in Leningrad is undoubtedly the main part of the author's memoirs, where the main characters are two layers of people who found themselves in the blockade. One of these layers is perishing, while the other, on the contrary, is extraordinarily resilient. This is the peculiarity of V.M. Glinka's siege memoirs - scenes that depict the inevitability of the death of entire groups of cultural workers in the conditions of the disaster of 1941-42.
