Book by Pulitzer Prize winner George Kennan, prominent American diplomat, ambassador to the USSR from 1954 to 1963, analyst, Sovietologist, author of numerous works on American diplomacy and foreign policy, tells about the complex development of the situation in Europe during the period of world history: the eve of the Second World War, major military conflicts, post-war division of Europe, and the confrontation of two political systems. The author presents his opinion on what was happening, provides vivid, although partly controversial, portraits of Joseph Stalin and Theodore Roosevelt, other outstanding political figures, acquaints with personal forecasts for the development of Russia after the war, and provides interesting sketches from the life of Stalin's entourage and employees of foreign diplomatic missions.
