Prince Vladimir Petrovich Meshchersky (1839-1914) was a Russian writer and publicist with extremely right-wing views, and the publisher-editor of the magazine "Grazhdanin" (The Citizen). He held the actual rank of State Councillor with the title of Chamberlain and was a representative of a princely family. He was the grandson of N. M. Karamzin. Meshchersky's parents belonged to the closest circle around Pushkin. In his youth, as a government official with special assignments from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Meshchersky traveled extensively throughout Russia. Meshchersky was an influential conservative publicist and government consultant (first to Alexander III, and then, after a brief disgrace, to Nicholas II), who became famous for his proposal to "put an end" to the reforms of Alexander II. For a time, the writer Fyodor Dostoevsky collaborated with him.
