This monograph presents, for the first time after the transition of the Russian Federation to international statistics, a comprehensive assessment of the health status and mortality of newborns in obstetric organizations of the Russian Federation and the Northwestern Federal District. It provides an evaluation of the regionalization of medical care, examines the resource provision in terms of beds and neonatologists, and conducts an objective and two-sided subjective assessment of the organization of medical care for newborns by mothers and neonatologists. The analysis of the data obtained allowed formulating the main problems of providing medical care to children depending on the level of maternity hospitals. New methodologies for assessing the quality of medical care for newborns at the regional level and evaluating the performance of neonatology services in obstetric organizations using basic indicators based on specially developed assessment scales are presented. These can be used for monitoring the level of organization of medical care for newborns in the subjects and federal districts of the Russian Federation. The publication is primarily aimed at scientific researchers and educators in medical educational institutions but may also be of interest to healthcare practitioners. The material in the publication can be useful for medical students, residents, interns, public health and healthcare organization workers, and doctors.
