About the book
A modern approach to the treatment of heart disease, taking into account the sex of the patient, from the worldwide recognized expert in the field of female cardiology.

At the beginning of this century, cardiovascular diseases became one of the main causes of mortality in women around the world. At the same time, doctors practically do not pay attention to the differences in male and female organisms, and all approaches to therapy remain, as historically, oriented to men. Meanwhile, cardiology is the area of medicine in which these differences are most clearly manifested and really matter. It is proved that in women and men, the processes of aging of the heart are not the same, atherosclerosis and arrhythmias are developing differently, heart attacks have different symptoms.

Professor Angela Maas, a pioneer in the field of human health studies and the head of the Center for Misassultural Coronary Heart Diseases, which patients from around the world turn to, talks about nine traditional risk factors for the development of heart disease. As well as what factors characteristic of women can suggest that they have increased the risk of complications of cardiovascular diseases:

Symptoms of menopause,
menstrual disorders,
migraine attacks,
Emotional stress,
Chronic inflammatory diseases.

The results of scientific research, Dr. Maas, accompanies a description of cases from clinical practice.

You will learn how to take care of yourself and your loved ones, what risk factors to pay attention to to prevent health problems. You will understand what questions to ask the doctor and how to communicate with him so that he can quickly make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the correct treatment. The book will be interesting to representatives of the professional community, as it raises an important question for medicine that the patient’s floor cannot be ignored, and it is necessary to transfer this understanding to clinical practice.

From the author
In 1991, the results of the first studies were published to have changed the ideas about the approaches to the treatment of heart attacks (myocardial infarction), and since then I haunted me the question of the need to take into account the patient"s floor when choosing a tactics for its treatment. The achievements of recent decades in the field of interventional cardiology and visualizing heart studies have no doubt: the sex of the patient affects the severity and nature of the manifestations of coronary heart disease. Atherosclerosis and the aging of myocardial in men and women are different, therefore, to make the correct diagnosis, it is necessary to look for other approaches, and other options for treatment.

Despite the great progress in the field of knowledge about the heart of a woman, their practical application is greatly behind. In 2000, I participated in the first international heart disease in women, which took place in the Canadian city of Victoria. There, I realized the need for a more close study of this topic and changes in the approaches to therapy oriented to men. In 2003, I opened the first Diagnostic Cardiological Center in the Netherlands for women. All these efforts have led to the accelerated introduction of changes in the treatment of changes in heart disease in women in the latest international clinical recommendations.

Working on this book, I pursued the goal in an affordable form to convey knowledge about heart diseases in women who have been obtained today. The description of the female body and the advice on the lifestyle presented in this book are applicable to any woman, in whatever corner of the planet it lives. I hope that this book will help you know your body and how it works, and will also teach you how to ask the right questions to your doctor and, in the end, manage your own health.
