The leadership is the first publication in our country devoted to the treatment of specific surgical diseases inherent in premature children. The need for this leadership is that in the past few decades, the number of babies who were born earlier and having extremely low body weight at birth increased. Their lives are preserved thanks to achievements in obstetrics and intensive care of newborns. The increased survival of such newborns led to the formation of a population of infants, susceptible to many rare surgical diseases. It turned out that the need for surgery, which seems not so significant in premature babies, exceeds the need for operations in full -term newborns. This may concern the ligation of an open arterial duct, necrotic enterocolitis, isolated perforation of the stomach and intestines, retinopathy, posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus, inguinal hernias and other, more rare pathological conditions. Based on their own experience of the authors and data of modern research, the issues of epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases in premature babies are highlighted. The main place is given to the discussion of modern therapeutic strategies that provide the greatest effect of recovery.
The publication is intended for neonatologists, children"s surgeons, obstetricians, gastroenterologists, pediatricians, common practice surgeons, pulmonologists, ophthalmologists, neurosurgeons
