A real monograph is devoted to sleep, which occupies at least a third of human life. The book is set out and illustrated by fragments from artistic and religious works The development of ideas about sleep from antiquity to the present day. The work gives various definitions of sleep, data on the mechanisms of sleep. Particular attention is paid to the ontogenesis of sleep, physiological phenomena of sleep in childhood. Since about a third of parents complain of sleep disorders in their children, a significant part of the publication is devoted to sleep disturbance. The monograph sets out the main ideas about sleep disorders that are widespread in childhood: insomnia, paracinnia, and sleep disturbances. Along with this, sleep changes are presented that occur during a number of neuropsychic diseases (epilepsy, attention deficit syndrome and hyperactivity).
The book reflects the main evolutionary sleep disorders, which are paid attention to in recent decades: sleep disturbances during free breastfeeding, sleep resistance. A significant place in the work is occupied by clinical, psychological and neurophysiological methods for diagnosing sleep disorders. The application presents standard questionnaires for determining sleep disorders in children. The monograph contains a section on the treatment of sleep disturbances, a variety of drugs and non -drug methods of therapy are set out.
