The book was written by a large team of specialists in the field of thyroid surgery (SHG) and reflects new achievements in the technique of operations that seemed to the “up to the smallest detail” on this anatomically complex and important physiological organ. We are talking about the method of intraoperative neuromonitoring (ionm) of the functions of laryngeal nerves, which not only was a significant improvement in operations technique, but also changed the approach to the preparation of patients for surgery and the methodology of their maintenance in the postoperative period, it caused the need to perform laryngoscopy before the operation, and part of the patients - also ultrasound, CT and MRI. The publication describes the features of research methods in relation to the puppy in terms of the upcoming intervention on it. Of considerable interest is the clinical anatomy of the puppy considered in the New World and the description of the anatomy of the return nerves, especially the outer branch of the upper laryngeal nerve, which has been distinguished by its novelty, which until recently paid enough attention. The description is very detailed, reinforced by remarkable schemes and photographs taken during operations. The methodology of Ionm, its types (constant and alternating) methods of monitoring the integrity of the laryngeal nerves: visual observation, electromyography, as well as registering the potentials of laryngeal muscles using electrodes, integral into the intubation tube are thoroughly set out. The use of Ionm builds the thyroid surgery to a new level, it makes it possible to protect the operations carried out on it and, most importantly, to surgeons that have not yet have sufficient experience or perform these operations relatively rarely, because according to the data brought by the authors to the share of surgeons , performing less than twenty such operations on the thyroid gland per year, accounts for about 75% of all operations on the thyroid gland. Knowledge of anatomy at the level presented in the book is also important from the medical and legal point of view, as it will reduce the number of annoying cases when the surgeon has to act as a defendant for claims filed by patients who suffered from damage to the laryngeal nerves.
The book will serve as a source of new knowledge about the thyroid gland to anatomes, surgeons, and related specialties involved in the treatment of puppy diseases
