The book highlights the issues of neurodegenerative changes with primary open -angle glaucoma. Based on the analysis of literary and own clinical and experimental data, the definition of glaucoma as a neurodegenerative disease is derived, in which not only ganglionic fibers of the retina and axons of the optic nerve are affected, but also conducting paths of the optic analyzer, up to the cerebral cortex. The effect of secondary mitochondrial dysfunction on the development and progression of glaucoma optical neuropathy is considered.
