The book is dedicated to the work of the pathological service during the Great Patriotic War. The author gives a documentary, truthful, emotionally saturated characteristic of how the pathological service in the blockade city arose and functioned. Materials on the pathology of exhaustion and the features of the course of various diseases against its background are presented: scarlet fever, rash and abdominal typhoid, paratyphus, leptospirosis, influenza, dysentery, diphtheria, fusospirochhetosis and especially dangerous infections, as well as “Leningrad hypertension” and healing of wounds during combat injury. A thorough study of these states made it possible to start conducting scientific research during the war, many of which became classic. The life and life of specialists, among whom were many outstanding figures of domestic medicine, are the historical chronicle of blockade time.
The book is illustrated by photographs of participants in the described events and can be of interest both for specialists in the field of pathological anatomy and the history of medicine, and for a wide range of readers.
