From the start of the application in Japan, an orthodontic technique using a multi-set arc (MPD) made of wire with a rectangular cross-section (Multiloop Edgewise Arch-Wire, Meaw) has passed more than 20 years. Initially, this technique was designed to eliminate an open bite, but its effectiveness made it possible to significantly expand the indications for use. Currently, the MPD methodology is used to eliminate almost all types of bite anomaly. In fact, today most Japanese dentists and orthodontists use the MPD methodology for orthodontic treatment. However, despite all the popularity of this technique, not a single leadership dedicated to it has been published until today. Indeed, the need to create such a book has long been ritted. Unfortunately, the author and active supporter of this methodology, Dr. Jung H. Kim), because of his too rich schedule, could not write a guide according to the MPD methodology.
Be that as it may, this textbook on the orthodontic application of the MPD methodology has been published at the Daiichi Shika Publications publishing house. The book is not so much presented by the philosophy of Dr. Kim as the basic concept and methodology for the treatment of anomalies of occlusion are given.
There is no need to note that the most important aspect of the treatment of abnormal occlusion is the thorough understanding of this pathology. With insufficient knowledge of the therapy strategy, as well as the key aspects of each type of occlusal anomalies, a successful result cannot be obtained even when using the MPD. Dr. Kim once said that the MPD is only a tool, and nothing more. The use of MPD is effective only if the treatment plan is based on the exact understanding of the features of an anomaly of the bite and the correct diagnosis.
In this book, the application of the MPD methodology is given in eliminating different types of abnormal occlusion. For clarity, the text is illustrated by a large number of schemes and clinical slides. However, it must be remembered that the methodology presented in the leadership is not the only one to eliminate these anomalies. Of course, therapy methods may differ, but in the considered clinical cases, the choice of treatment was based on the condition of specific patients
