The book highlights one of the most common nosological forms of chronic liver diseases - non -alcoholic fatty liver disease. The modern concepts of its etiology, pathogenesis and the principles of diagnosis are presented. Pathophysiological mechanisms of insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and lesions of other organs and systems associated with the development of non -alcoholic fatty liver disease are described. The factors and mechanisms of the progression of fibrosis in non -alcoholic fatty liver disease are considered in detail. The possibilities and restrictions of morphological and non -invasive methods for the diagnosis of stages of fibrosis and the degree of statosis of the liver tissue are discussed. Modern approaches to the conservative and surgical treatment of this disease are justified.
