The second edition of the textbook, processed and supplemented in connection with a change in the educational program in the specialty "Dentistry" according to the standard of Federal State Educational Standard 3+, includes information on the main stages of the formation of microbiology, issues of special terminology. It discusses the issues of taxonomy, ecology and biology of microbes that inhabit the mucous membrane of the human oral cavity, the general principles of a person’s relationship with microorganisms. The physical and chemical substantiation of the effectiveness of modern methods of sterilization and disinfection in relation to the needs of practical dentistry, the principles of antibacterial and immunomodulating therapy in dentistry are outlined. The material on the oral cavity is presented in detail. The description of the causative agents of the underlying infectious diseases of a person causing pathological manifestations in the oral cavity has been updated and expanded. Certain chapters of the textbook are devoted to the formation of a microbial biofilm, the development of dental caries, periodontal diseases, the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and their complications of a local and systemic nature.
