The training manual presents the basic rules of work in the microbiological laboratory and the data necessary for conducting practical classes at the course "Microbiology, virology and immunology". The manual shows an important role of light microscopy in the microbiological diagnosis of pathogens of human diseases, while emphasizing the significance of the proper use of methods for the study of morphology and physiology of microorganisms, a variety of techniques for the coloring of bacteria, nutrient media and methods of sterilization of dishes is listed. Bacteriological methods for diagnosing human diseases are described in detail, starting with the capture of clinical material for research, choosing nutrient media, the cultivation of various pathogens and the release of pure cultures of bacteria. The data on the structure and chemical composition of bacterial cells presented in the manual are based on the determination of the sensitivity of pathogens of human diseases to antimicrobial drugs, as well as a reasonable selection and prescription of antimicrobial drugs. The decisive role of representatives of the normal microbiota of a person in the regulation of many physiological functions of the body is shown in detail. An assessment of the use of modern methods and molecular biological tests in the diagnosis of various human diseases is given.
