At the medical school of David Faygenbaum, they called "Beast" - he was an athlete and, in addition, was famous for exceptional intellectual endurance. And then everything changed dramatically: inexplicable fatigue began to torment him, the organs began to refuse a matter of weeks. The doctors were puzzled and could not make a diagnosis. Following consciousness, David prayed to get a second chance: it was like a dramatic struggle for overtime in football.
A miracle happened. David survived - but only in order to survive relapses again and again and stand on the verge of death. As it turned out, he had one of the varieties of an extremely severe and rare Castleman disease - something between cancer and an autoimmune disease. With the help of relatives, friends and mentors, he contacted other doctors and patients facing Castleman"s disease, and eventually developed an ambitious plan - together to compile a list of the most promising scientific problems and attract world -class researchers to solve them. Instead of waiting for the stars in science, he decided to build the stars on their own
