The text describes some important aspects of the work of a gigienist dentist. The book is based on the experience accumulated by the author for 10 years of work in this profession. Successful treatment of periodontal diseases depends on close cooperation between specialists (hygienists and dentists) and the patient. After a thorough examination of the patient with periodontal disease, the dentist must choose a suitable periodontal therapy and organize an adequate treatment plan. Many scientific publications and textbooks related to periodontology claim that the patient should receive detailed information about periodontal disease and the relationship between his occurrence and the progression of denture. The patient must be correctly informed and properly motivated. Nevertheless, several attempts were made to describe how detailed the information should be, and what problems must be overcome so that the patient is correctly motivated for the prescribed treatment. One aspect of the problem is related to the description of the disease in the patient. Professionals often use the technical medical language to describe the etiology and treatment of periodontal disease, instead of choosing words that are easy to understand the patient. During my work as a gigienist dentist, I faced many different types of patients, and many years of experience taught me how to communicate and create successful cooperation with those who are prescribed dental surgery and initially does not know the importance of periodontal disease.
