In accordance with the classification of WHO (1983), the prevention of mental disorders is divided into primary (prevention of the occurrence of mental disorders), secondary (their timely detection and treatment) and tertiary (prevention of severe consequences of mental disorders) The effectiveness of psychological work and cognitive-behavioral therapy in severe and persistent mental disorders is often assessed only as temporary or transient. The effectiveness of primary prevention of mental disorders is evaluated more optimistic. It is assumed that future studies of the etiology of mental disorders carried out using methods of epidemiological analysis can contribute to the development of additional primary prevention strategies. These efforts may help in redistribution of resources and adoption of state policy measures. The measures of primary prevention of mental disorders cover not only the education of the population in the field of mental health and medical care as a whole. They include the fight against infections, injuries and psychogenic effects, cover the field of activity of medical and genetic consultations, antenatal clinics and obstetric care systems, and the early detection of developmental abnormalities.
