You are holding in your hands a publication dedicated to the basics of treatment of spasticity through injection of botulinum toxin under the control of ultrasound.
Today, botulinum therapy is used, perhaps, in all areas of clinical medicine, and interest in it is constantly growing. In the treatment of many neurological diseases, as well as in the rehabilitation of patients after a stroke or injury, intramuscular administration of botulinum toxin has the highest level of evidence (a) in relation to a decrease in muscle tone and improving the passive function of the upper limb.
The problem of spasticity has recently become more and more relevant. Every year in Russia, about 400 thousand people transfer a stroke, more than 180 thousand receive severe traumatic brain injuries, as a result of which a motor deficit and increase in muscle tone are formed, which lead to restriction of legal capacity, social maladaptation of patients and other serious consequences.
Patient rehabilitation often becomes impossible precisely because muscle hyperactivity (spasticity) interferes with functional restoration, causes pain, is the cause of deformations of the affected limbs and many other problems. Botulinic toxin injections are the first line therapy, in particular, in the correction of focal spasticity of the upper limb in patients after a stroke or traumatic brain injury
