The desire of mankind to understand the brain led to the most important discoveries in science and medicine. In his exciting book, the famous popularizer of science Matthew Cobb tells how thorny this path was, because often the road to the high -tech present was dotted with eccentrics, who conducted unnecessary or cruel experiments and their victims. The book is divided into three parts "past", "present" and "future", in which the author immerses us in the history of the study of the mysterious organ. He talks about the terrible experiments of scientists-innovatives over people, for the sake of the desire to understand its structure and function. The first part describes the period since ancient times, when the heart (and not the brain) was considered a source of thoughts and emotions. The second author says that today almost all scientific research and development is controlled by private companies, and explains to us what it is dangerous. In the final part, Matthew Cobb makes assumptions in which direction the researchers will move in the near future. Indeed, despite the incredible scientific breakthroughs, we still have only a vague idea of the work of the brain
