This book is a fruit of cooperation between a scientist who is directly involved in multidisciplinary studies of Alzheimer"s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases leading to the development of dementia, and a writer who, not being a doctor or a neurobiologist, due to life circumstances, was deeply involved in the fight against the destructive consequences of this diseases. This forced him to turn to a thorough study of the steady growing number of scientific publications on this problem with his characteristic thoroughness and scrupulousness. The desire to help other “victims” of Alzheimer"s disease - close relatives of patients - inspired him in a simple, intelligible form to state the studied scientific information, share his knowledge and personal life experience, taking part in the preparation of this book.
The publication is addressed to a wide circle of readers: doctors of different specialties - psychiatrists, neurologists, geriates, family doctors and all medical professionals who assist older patients, as well as family members who were faced with this problem. The former will be able to obtain modern knowledge about pathogenetic mechanisms, risk factors, diagnostic criteria, various methods of drug therapy of Alzheimer"s disease and the possibilities of preventive intervention in older people from risk groups for this disease. The second in an accessible to a non -specialist form will be able to get an idea of the evolution of knowledge about this disease, symptoms and course of the disease, problems that occur as it is destructive on the patient’s personality, and the possibilities of overcoming them
