The book discusses issues of sensitivity of radiometric installations designed for measuring low activities based on statistical regularities of nuclear radiation registration. The relationship between sensitivity, background of installations, counting efficiency, and total measurement time is provided. For installations where the cosmic background component is suppressed, the concept of background constancy is introduced. It is shown that such installations have twice the sensitivity compared to conventional ones. Ways to increase the sensitivity of installations are considered. A new method of reducing the cosmic background without using anticoincidence counters is described. The book will be useful to all specialists who deal with the measurement of low activities and to specialists working in the field of increasing the sensitivity of radiometric equipment.
