The basis of this unique publication is the famous "Volga collection" Maxim Dmitriev, for the first time gained fame at the All -Russian industrial and art exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896. Separate photos from this collection were published in a number of albums and guidebooks. The Publishing House of the Decum for the first time in Russia prepared and released a fundamental publication where the photographs of Dmitriev are the artistic dominant of the album. The task that Dmitriev set himself was to capture the Volga from sources to mouth: he captured historical and architectural monuments, types of Volga cities, representatives of various peoples living in the Volga region. The master took pictures for the Russian Geographical Society, which, in turn, provided Dmitriev with transport and labor. Work on the Volga collection ended in 1903.
Now a significant part of the heritage of M.P. Dmitriev (including the "Volzhskaya collection") in the form of glass negatives is stored in the archive of the Auditic documentation of the Nizhny Novgorod region (Archaeen).
There are 320 illustrations in total in the album, including 250 photos. Most of them are published for the first time.
Signatures for photographs, archaic in the opinion of the modern reader, will help you be transferred to the past, and will serve as a kind of guide to the Volga a hundred years ago.
Authors-compiler: J. Groysman, M. Khrapovitsky, V. Groysman, S. Pozharskaya
