The textbook presents the main methods and techniques for solving algebraic and irrational equations and inequalities, as well as equations and inequalities involving absolute values. Examples are selected from entrance exam variations, the Unified State Exam (EGE), mathematical Olympiads, and are arranged in order of increasing difficulty. Also included are problems for independent solving with answers. The examples and problems presented in this book have been tested and used by the authors for several years at the preparatory department of Lomonosov Moscow State University to improve the mathematical level of high school students. The authors hope that this textbook will be interesting and informative for many readers, from high school students to mathematics teachers, as well as for students in preparatory departments of universities.
