The new direction in solid-state physics and chemistry that emerged in the late 60s - early 70s of the last century - the physico-chemistry of low-dimensional conducting solids - has now reached a high level of development, allowing for the widespread use of such objects in modern micro- and nano-electronics and spintronics. The materials of modern electronics and spintronics include inorganic and complex compounds (Malatesta-Kanziani complexes, Krogmann salts, olefin dithiolate complexes, including dm complexes), organic compounds (charge transfer complexes, ion-radical salts), organic and inorganic polymers.
This monograph summarizes the data obtained to date, which are of significant interest from the perspective of solid-state theory (metal-dielectric phase transitions, transitions to states with charge and/or spin density waves, low-dimensional magnets, nonlinear optical phenomena, ferroelectric properties, chiral magnets, magneto-chiral dichroism). These data have significantly expanded our understanding of the nature of the chemical bond, led to the discovery of new classes of chemical compounds and new types of supramolecular interactions, such as halogen bonds, n-type interactions. Each of the existing monographs in the world literature is dedicated only to one of the classes of synthetic metals or magnets. In Russian, if we do not consider a few outdated translations of foreign publications (made in the last century), there are no such monographs at all. Considering the need to prepare qualified physicists and chemists who could successfully work in this adjacent, interdisciplinary field of knowledge, the relevance of publishing this monograph is obvious.
