The book is devoted to the masters of the Russian sculpture of the XVIII-XIH centuries. Through the creative biographies of famous masters, located in chronology, starting from the Petrovsk epoch and ending with the Criminal Court of the XIHX centuries, the history of the domestic sculpture for 200 years is consistently revealed.
For the first time in the history of Russian and Soviet art, the books and creativity of the large quantity (47) of the masters of the domestic sculpture of the XVIII-XIH centuries are considered in detail in the book. Numerous illustrations of their works viewing the most important steps in the development of the Russian sculpture in 200 years: from the decorative forms of Baroque to the gradual transition to the strict and restrained stylistics of classicism, overcoming classic canons and movement to a new, realistic stage of development associated with the progressive ideas of the Russian Democratic Society.
Almost every monographic article begins with a portrait image of the sculptor. At the same time, the book is richly illustrated by the works of monumental, monumental-decorative, memorial, easel sculpture and plastics of small forms of masters of the XVIII-XIX centuries.
