Boris Kustodiev decided to become an artist, having visited young years at the exhibition of Russian painters. Pupil I. Pepina, he started his way in painting with portraits, but the real style found, driving around the cities and villages of Russia. Then the poetic images of the Russian life were born, as if in the spirit of folk lobe. The artist has lived a very difficult life - the disease chained it to a wheelchair. But his painting did not lose his paints, the artist"s creativity remained "radiant and optimistic". The artist believed that art is always associated with the feeling of the holiday in the presentation of the people. Boris Kustodiev wrote portraits, landscapes, theatrical scenery, illustrated books, but the "Russian theme" remained the main content of his canvases.
