Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria - head of the NKVD from 1938-1943 and head of the combined Ministry of Internal Affairs and State Security. From 1945-1953, he was the deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, a member of the State Defense Committee during the war, a representative of the Stavka during the defense of the Caucasus, and a Marshal of the USSR. After the war, he supervised the creation of atomic and missile weapons. Four months after the death of I.V. Stalin, he was removed from all positions, declared an English spy, a Musavatist, a conspirator, and executed. At the same time, there are other versions: killed during arrest, hiding abroad, etc. L.P. Beria is one of the few CPSU figures who has not been rehabilitated to this day, although his merits and contribution to the defense of the country leave little doubt for many today. Despite the fact that dozens of films and books have been released about Beria in the last sixty years, his personality and his story continue to generate interest. In the book offered to the reader, an attempt is made (with references to all the information currently available in the public domain) to provide an objective characterization of this extraordinary figure of the Soviet Union. The edition is supplemented with archival documents and photographs.
