The development strategy of the transport complex of the city of Moscow involves transforming the city's railway stations and integrating them not only with existing and modern modes of transportation, but also turning them into attractive objects of urban infrastructure for visiting. Not long ago, railway stations served a utilitarian function: providing the opportunity for long-distance train travel or suburban trains. In Moscow, most of the stations are architectural landmarks, located in central areas of the city, which should contribute to the integration of station complexes into the urban space. The station buildings and their interiors, railway tracks and approaches to them, waiting halls, various commercial services, and the organization of station squares all have the potential to transform traditional stations into modern transport complexes, interesting and attractive places to visit, meeting the modern expectations of visitors in terms of the quality of transport services, comfort, and transfer to other modes of transportation.
A comprehensive large-scale study by the marketing department of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics was aimed at analyzing the customer experience and perception of visitors to the current state of stations and infrastructure, ease of movement, clarity of navigation messages, quality of transport services and transfer convenience, quality of commercial and additional services, which served as the basis for recommendations to the Department of Transport and Development of the Road and Transport Infrastructure of the city of Moscow to change the perception of attractiveness and increase satisfaction of passengers and visitors when visiting the stations.
