The book is the eighteenth volume in a series dedicated to the White Movement in Russia, and covers the actions of the Armed Forces in Southern Russia (VSYuR) during the summer and early autumn of 1919, when the White forces, having taken Kharkov, Belgorod, and Tsaritsyn, headed north with the immediate goal of occupying Moscow. By this time, the strength of the VSYuR was around 250,000 people.
During the offensive, Kiev, Kursk, Voronezh, and Orel were captured. The famous named regiments of the Whites - Kornilovsky, Markovsky, Drozdovsky, Alexeevsky - operated on the main attack directions. However, the stretched front line, and most importantly, the release of Bolshevik reserves from the Western (against the Poles) and Eastern (against Kolchak) fronts, initially led to a halt in the offensive, and then to a retreat southward.
The book is supplemented with extensive and previously unpublished comments containing several hundred unknown biographical notes about the authors and heroes of the essays.
Compiled by S.V. Volkov.
