"Makar Chudra" is the first printed work by Maxim Gorky. It was published in 1892 in the newspaper "Kavkaz". The story was first signed with the pseudonym M. Gorky. It was adapted into a film in 1976. There is a memorial plaque on the house where the story was written in Tbilisi, Georgia. The main character of the work is the old gypsy Makar Chudra. He tells the legend of the tragic meeting of two young gypsies - Loiko Zobara and Radda, who love each other but consider this feeling a chain that restricts their independence. As a result, Loiko kills Radda and kneels before her, already dead, fulfilling the condition of their wedding set by the girl. Radda's father, who witnessed his daughter's death, kills Loiko with a knife.
