This edition continues the publication of works on the philosophy of language and linguistics from the extensive legacy of Wilhelm von Humboldt, first translated into Russian. The book includes research on the philosophy and theory of language that has not lost its relevance, including two of the most important works clarifying von Humboldt's views on phonology and phonetics, the dual division of language, the principles of forming the linguistic worldview and grammatical structure of language, his teachings on the internal form of language, as well as the understanding of the universal type of language and various ways in which languages act in shaping speech. The illumination of theoretical thought is complemented by works containing the analysis of specific material (in particular, Sanskrit), allowing for a more complete presentation of von Humboldt's scientific paradigm, which forms the basis of his concept of general linguistics, uniting research practice (structural analysis) and philosophical reflection.
