Xanfa's magic was useless in the Mundane... until Dor decided to be clever and honest!
It wasn't easy for Dor to grow up knowing that he had to become the next king of the magical land of Xanf. He didn't want to be involved in ruling the kingdom at all. But the kind king Trent goes to the magicless Mundane, where strange creatures like horses and bears live, to establish trade relations with them, and Dor is forced to take his place for a week.
A week passes. No sign or trace of Trent. Three weeks pass. King Trent still doesn't return. Something terrible has definitely happened: he is surely being held captive in a stinky dungeon from which he cannot escape. The burden of ruling falls on Dor's shoulders... and on Irene, who is eager to become his queen!
The only hope is to go to the Mundane and free King Trent. But how to do it without magic? Despite this, he bravely sets off on a journey to the southern tip of Xanf with Irene, a golem, a centaur, and a young ogre.
But the entrance to the Mundane, of course, lies to the north.
