Versus is a young magazine established in 2021. However, philosophers, economists, philologists, anthropologists, cultural historians (members of the editorial council and college, expand this list of disciplines), for more than a decade involved in university teaching and the release of intellectual periodicals take part in the work of the editorial office. The editorial nucleus is distributed between Moscow and St. Petersburg, creating a certain voltage and discussion circuit, which are related to differences both in scientific traditions themselves and in academic gabitus, and practices of intellectual everyday life. In this sense, the energy of the debate is inscribed not only in the name of the magazine and the method of organizing the material, but also in the routine work of the editorial office. The lack of a long history of the magazine can be compensated by the Versus word rich in etymology. Its meaning is revealed when addressing the spatial semantics implemented in the prepositions, nouns and verbs: "towards ...", "in comparison with ...", "row", "line", "groove". The Latin verb vertere meant "turn/si", "unfold/si", "convert/si". Thus, the orientation fundamental for the magazine is not associated with confrontation, but with the desire to structure and mapping various socio -humanitarian landscapes
