175 years since the birth of N. N. Miklukho-Maclay.
Nikolai Nikolaevich Miklukho-Maklaya, whose 175th anniversary we celebrate this July, became the first European to discover the world of the Papuans of the north-eastern part of the island of New Guinea in the Gulf of Astrolabia (now these places are called the coast of Maclay) He conducted a thorough study of their anthropological type, material culture, economic structure, social life. He showed the failure of the racist views of some anthropologists contemporary to him about the "bunch -like" growth of hair and "roughness" of the skin of the Papuans.
