A rare case for "Znamenskaya": the July number is not opened by verses, as usual, but by the story of Natalia Sokolovskaya "peace" about troubles, which coronavirus pandemia managed to bring almost every Russian family. Yes, and the “chiaroscuro " - the lyrical in its everyday life Diary of Nina Gorlanova - is preceded by a bitter joke in the epigraph:

- in June and July we will be at home, and in August we go to the store ...
However, thank God, all the same continues, which is also confirmed by the poetic collections of Alexei Kubrik, Denis Kolchin, Marina Mursalova, Vitaly Simankova , both our prose, and many other publications of the magazine. Pavel Finn returns to the "trifles of life before lasting. Vladimir Lidsky continues his experiments with meaning and syntax. Modern characters are explored in their short stories by Nikita Germans and Alexander Shilyakin, who is represented by Vladislav Otroshenko in this issue. Under the heading "oral speech" about his personal experience and experience of modern prose, Alexei Makushinsky reflects in an interview with Tatyana Veretenova. And Konstantin Frumkin with the article "Birth of a gentle world" invites to a conversation about the coming in our daily use of the so -called "new ethics", and we will return to this conversation in the nearest issues of the “banner”.
The current day is verified by the past, which is actually always with us. This is evidenced by Jacob Gordin "Book of Fates, or History with a human face", dedicated to the life and views of the wonderful historian Nathan Eidelman, and the archival publication of the letters of Alexander Kresovsky, Alexander Kazintsev, our constant section "Year of Mandelstam" is replenished with Vladimir Aristov"s thoughtful essay about the poem "Phytonchik", in which, as they say, "literary and life plots of several authors from different times contacted." The tragic fate of artists who have fallen victims of Stalin’s arbitrariness in the thirties recalls with the extensive involvement of the archival materials of Eleanor Shafran in the article "Butovo training ground VS Nucus Museum named after I.V. Savitsky ".
And, of course, several dozen pages, as always, are given in the July issue of our bibliographic service. Olga Bell tells about the fragmentary, super -short -cropped, essential, diary and draft prose in paper and electronic periodicals of the first months of 2021. In the “Observer "section, the plays of Dmitry Danilov, the poetic collections of Vyacheslav Shapovalov, Mikhail Kavratov, Maria Zatonskaya and Konstantin Komarov, the novels of anatit, Grigoryan and Vladimir Paperny, the cultural essay of Elena Gruzdeva, are reviewed. The Kazakhstani publishing house Foliant, including the books of novice Russian writers, is represented by Stanislav secrets. Pavel Glushakov introduces the Yamskaya Sloboda with the Tambov almanac, and the number of the "theatrical impressions" of our regular author Pavel Rudnev, who this time analyzes the new performances of Yevgeny Grishkovts on the Moscow stage, ends
