Walter Forstmann (1883-1973) - the second in terms of effectiveness among the German submariners of the First World War. Under his command, the U-39 submarine for 17 combat campaigns of 1915-1917 managed to sink, damage and capture more than one and a half hundred of merchant ships with a total tonnage over 400,000 gross-tonn. Forestmann talks about his raids in the Mediterranean Sea in memoirs, first translated into Russian and presented in this book. The publication is supplemented by the memories of the anonymous German submariner about the hostilities of the submarine under the U-195 fictional number in the Arctic Ocean. In addition, the collection includes an essay "Operation of Germanic submarines in polar latitudes in the First World War", written by N. Tymoshenko. The reader will be able to get acquainted with the actions of the underwater fleet in the First World War at different theaters of hostilities from the African coast to the polar latitudes
