The fourth book of the monumental autobiographical cycle of Karl Uve Knausgor "My Struggle tells about the youth of the protagonist and the beginning of his writer"s path.
Karl Uwe, eighteen, he just graduated from a gymnasium, but does not intend to receive higher education. He wants to write. Many intentions are swirling in my head, they are torn on paper. But in order to devote yourself to this occupation, you need money and free time. He is held by a school teacher in a small fishing village in the north of Norway. He does not really like the work, the rustic atmosphere is even less. But it is surrounded by incredible beauty nature, from which it is breathtaking. At first, everything develops well: he composes several short stories, local guys respect him, he is popular with girls. But when the vicinity is covered by the polar darkness, reducing the accessible space to the only village street, darkness reigns in the soul of the hero. In the hope of returning the lost inspiration, he increasingly drinks with local fishermen, so that one day with horror to find failures in his memory - the first sign of alcoholism that destroyed his father.
