History of Tatarstan: Khanate, Kingdom, Province, Republic. Since ancient times, the lands of the Volga -Kama were attracted by farmers with fertile arable lands, nomads - beautiful pastures, and merchants - convenient ways of messages and a unique location at the junction of Europe and Asia. The founder of the Kazan Khanate - Khan Ulu -Muhammed was a pragmatist: he understood that the revival of the Golden Horde was no longer possible, but the creation of a more modest in size, but a durable khanate is a more realistic task. The capture of the capital of the Kazan Khanate was considered such a significant event in Moscow that in honor of the victory the grandiose church of Blessed Vasily was erected, and later the first Russian epic poem appeared. According to legend, when Moscow is released from the Poles, success came to the Russian militia only after delivery to the army of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The descendants of immigrants from the Horde eventually occupied a prominent place among representatives of the highest nobility of the Russian Empire. At the end of the XIV century, the Lithuanian princes invited the Horde riders to their army. And as a result, a unique community of hereditary warriors who preserved both faith and traditions arose in the Catholic country. In the twentieth century, the outcome of the Civil War in Russia was largely resolved in the battles that went on the territory of the Volga region. On May 27, 1920, a decree was released on the formation of the autonomous Tatar Socialist Soviet Republic. Wanting to get the help of the West, the Bolsheviks did not hide the scope of disasters in 1921-1922, but did not admit the causes of hunger in the Volga region. The leading industry of the economy of the republic is oil production and oil refining.
