Science, technology, education: Polytechnic Museum 150 years.
One of the oldest scientific and technical museums in the world - Polytechnic - 150! One and a half centuries dedicated to the spread of scientific and technical knowledge, rooting of technological culture, service in the field of education.
The history of the Polytechnic is closely related to the history of the country. During the First World War, the museum was deployed by the lasaret for the wounded, and the X -ray cabinet, which was used by all Moscow hospitals, was also operated. In the 1930s, the main task of the museum was the ideological support of industrialization. During the Great Patriotic War, the museum, without stopping exhibition activities, worked as an air defense and shelter point. In the sixties, at the time of the thaw, the large audience of the Polytechnic turned into a place of poetic evenings that were very popular with those who wanted changes. Andrei Voznesensky wrote in 1962:

The Polytechnic Museum is our pride. One of the leading museums of science and technology in the world. It stands on a par with such advanced scientific and educational centers as the Museum of Science in London, the German Museum in Munich, the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa, the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford, the Shanghai Scientific and Technical Museum and others.
The museum was created on the basis of the 1872 Polytechnic Exhibition Funds on the initiative of the Society of Lovers of Natural Science, Anthropology and Ethnography. The main goal is the spread of natural science and technical knowledge in the broad layers of society. That is why from the very beginning a distinctive feature of the museum was not only a demonstration of the scientific and technical achievements of its time, but also a popular explanation of the principles of their work and general laws of nature.
The prosperity of the country and society in the modern world is impossible to imagine without scientific and technical development, based both on the latest research and achievements, and on the knowledge of the scientific conquests of the past, understanding how science is arranged, how technologies are developing and what role they play in our life. Throughout its history, the Polytechnic Museum has always been a popularizer of ideas and decisions that determined the path of scientific and technological progress.
The museum library, lecturer, scientific laboratories, exhibitions - all these are components of large -scale work carried out in the museum.
