Magazine Fashion Theory: clothing, body, culture - the first humanitarian magazine in Russia dedicated to fashion as a phenomenon of culture. The circle of topics is the history of costume and design, bodily practices, historical ideas about beauty and fashionable figure, fashion and city life (architecture, street fashion, cafe, shopping routes), fashion and art. The pages of the magazine present analytical materials in modern fashion: the work of famous designers, problems of fashion consumption, fashion journalism, fashion and PR, fashion and photography. The magazine prints translations of the articles of Western scientists from the leading international fashion magazine Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body & Culture, the work of Russian costume historians, classical texts on fashion theory.
Fashion theory is the only magazine in the country, focused on the interdisciplinary study of fashion in an academic manner, which fundamentally distinguishes it from other fashion editions that are commercial. At the same time, fashion theory is not at all a "boring" scientific almanac on the history of the costume, since the main topics are related to topical fashion issues in a wide humanitarian context. The authors of the magazine reflect on the symbolic language of fashion in such unexpected angles as bodily, visual perception, performance, mass culture, history of ideas, politics, economics.
Fashion theory is a quarterly publication for everyone who is seriously interested in fashion, is preparing to become a professional in the fashion industry, and would like to really delve into the history of the costume and fashion theory. One of the goals of the publication is to create a professional community of representatives of different specialties interested in studying fashion, a space for discussions and, ultimately, a new information field in humanitarian knowledge
